Reflecting with St. John of the Cross

I have begun to read more of St. John of the Cross and came across his "Sayings of Light and Love". I would like to share with you a few of these as I reflect upon them so as to share something for you to reflect upon and help spark the fire within your soul.

St. John himself states of these little sayings, "these will be sayings of discretion for the wayfarer, of light for the way, and of love in the wayfaring... Let us speak to the heart words bathed in sweetness and love that do indeed please you, removing obstacles and stumbling blocks from the paths of many souls who unknowingly trip and unconsciously walk in the path of error."

Sayings:

"Oh Lord, my God, who will seek You with simple and pure love, and not find that You are all one can desire, for You show Yourself first and go out to meet those who seek You?"

How true this is my dear friends! For if we allowed ourself to let go and love Him with all our heart, then He woudl come running towards us faster than we could ever run towards Him. Like a small child who is out in the yard. The mother sits on the porch watching at all times, but as soon as the child calls out for the mother and begins to walk towards her, she rushes towards him faster than this little one can move. But it is not until this call that the mother goes to the child as he plays, for her child is at play and at peace in his play. Let us learn to love the Lord and turn to run towards Him with all our heart, but also to know when he asks us to go out and play, knowing that all the while He is there, watching us carefully so that any slight movement indicating a desire that He come to play with us or that we simply desire to rest in His Divine lap, He will run to our side to embrace us and fill our deepest desires! Praise Him!!!
